I learned something at work today.

There I was, writing a 400+ line SQL procedure to split the Chinese language code into two separate codes for Mandarin and Cantonese (I had to update the data in about a dozen tables, hence the massive procedure), and I thought, "hmm, I'd better go to the ISO website and get the correct abbreviations." A couple of Google searches later, and I came across the IANA language subtag registry. I started scrolling down, and came across:

Type: grandfathered
Tag: i-klingon
Description: Klingon
Added: 1999-05-26
Preferred-Value: tlh
Deprecated: 2004-02-24
Comments: replaced by ISO code tlh

Yeah, Klingon has its own ISO language code. I couldn't help but crack up, and then I had to explain what was so funny...

(And now, if you'll excuse me, I have Polaris work to do... as if I didn't already know I was a big geek. ;) )

Yeah, it would be funny to see if our client spots it in the list. ;)

So long as we didn't inadvertantly upload it to our production database... the Internet is for Serious Business. ;)

(Well, in this case, since our site is an employment site for teachers, it would probably be a bad thing if we put Klingon on our live site.)
