[livejournal.com profile] redeem147 was good enough to create a Polaris icon, which I promptly filched as soon as I saw it on [livejournal.com profile] gurudata's LJ. *grin*

Maybe it's just me, but if you're having a telephone conversation with someone, and you're cut off accidentally, and you haven't given the other person your name/number, wouldn't the correct thing to do be to call the person back immediately? I had a call around 4 from a recruiter, and we got two minutes into the conversation when the phone went dead. I was on my way out the door when the phone rang - I actually had my coat, toque, scarf and boots on, and could have just let the phone ring, but I didn't. In fact, I sat by the phone for another five minutes or so in case they called back, but they didn't. Nor did they try my cell phone. Argh.

I'm hoping that they didn't just decide that I was unqualified for the position (it was a PL/1 job, and I haven't actually programmed in PL/1 since August 1987) and hung up on me. Considering that I was in the middle of a sentence, that would have been extremely rude.

I checked the company's website, but they didn't have any PL/1 listings up, so I couldn't even get the person's name and number that way. And yes, I know I could have called *69 to get their number and call them back, but *69 doesn't seem to work too well when the call originated from an extension.

I had another call earlier from another recruiter, but he was leaving the office early today and so I missed him. In his message, he said that he was poking around my website and "wasted ten minutes" (his words) reading all about me. I wonder if he read anything here. I don't generally make a habit of friends-locking posts unless there's something ultra-personal that I don't want to share with the whole world, and that happens fairly seldom. (After all, according to [livejournal.com profile] aprilsnark I am the "Queen of TMI." ;) )
lance_sibley: (bats in my belfry)
I'm all packed for tomorrow's trip to Atlanta. I still haven't managed to get caught up on stuff that I missed while I was in LA, though... I was running around today to the bank, Grand & Toy (to buy a black ink cartridge for my computer so that I could print my e-ticket), and the laundry room. While I was waiting for my clothes to dry, a neighbour with whom I'm friendly came in to put his clothes in the washer. We were chatting, and I told him about going to Worldcon and Dragon*Con. He asked me if I was familiar with the Dragonriders of Pern books, and when I said yes, he mentioned that a few years ago, he was involved in an effort to make a television series or movie (I wasn't clear on which) from the books... with some guy named Ron Moore. Yes, that Ron Moore. (!!!!!) I asked him if he still kept in contact with him, but he hasn't. It seems they never actually met - they only interacted via phone and email. But still...

I don't imagine I'll get much sleep tonight. Apparently my body decided that today was the day to catch up on missed sleep from last week... and I woke up at 2:45. Eek. I haven't even read today's emails, and there's been a flood on the SMOFS list since the end of Worldcon. Maybe I'll stay up and get caught up on TrekBBS, since I've only been able to log on once since getting home, and only read the Miscellaneous and Meet-Ups fora. OTOH, I'm staying at the same hotel as last year, and I know they have a small business centre where I can use a computer.

Today's amusement, from [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] ironychan:

Here's a planet
There's a planet
And another little planet
Fuzzy planet
Funny planet
Planet
Planet
Not

Planet
Planet
Comet
Planet
Asteroid
Potato
Planet
Planet
Galileo
Planet
Planet
Planet
Not

Tombaugh found a planet
It showed up late at night
Comparing pairs of photographs
It moved from left to right
They thought it was a big one
It turned out to be small
And now we have decided
It's no planet after all

Did you ever see a planet
Watch a planet
Do the planet
Planet's planet
What's a planet
Planet
Planet
Not

Half a planet
Double planet
Not a planet
Hawking
Planet
Extrasolar pulsar planet
Planet
Planet
Not

Is this how it's told now?
Does everyone agree?
What became of Ceres
And of UB-313?
The solar system's getting thin
Pluto's been forgot
Time for it to spin away
'Cause planet it is not

Makes me wish I knew Flash.

The same user also created the following icon and has said it's stealable:

lance_sibley: (I'm With Stupid)
... with Photoshop and the latest PSB album's lyrics.

Okay, this song is about Bush and Blair, but I couldn't resist...

I just spent 20 minutes making an animated GIF file, only to find out that it was too big to be used as an icon. :( So I've used one of the frames by itself.

Yes, I'm enjoying the new Pet Shop Boys album far too much (though the song "I Made My Excuses And Left" is very reminiscent of "So Sorry, I Said," and another song reminded me of "Footsteps").

Here's the full animated version:

Oh, and here's another one I made as a joke when responding to a post by [livejournal.com profile] mencc1701 recently. I'm sure no non-Canadians get it at all - but if you look here, you should be able to figure it out.

We have a table this weekend at Anime North for Gaylaxicon - it's your last chance to preregister, so be sure to drop by!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] aprilsnark for providing the link to
this entry by [livejournal.com profile] grrliz_icons, chock full of TTC icon goodness.

Here's a sample that I took for myself:

This Angel episode ("The Bachelor Party") has some weeeeeird dialogue... I'm afraid to ask what Emily Post said about brain-eating forks.
lance_sibley: (Justin And Ethan)
Yes, it's a GIP. :)

Thanks go out to [livejournal.com profile] sunshine1984 for the screencaps.
lance_sibley: (Facepalm - by prettygood)
... someone obviously disagrees. [livejournal.com profile] esprix posted this, and I felt I had to share:

Christmas Lights can be taken too far...

I'm just glad I don't live there. Or next door. Or across the street. Or in the same geographical division. I'm frightened by the fact that I'm likely on the same continent as this person.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] h8torun - here's a selection of Darcy Tucker photos for you. Which one do you prefer?

Behind the cut to spare my non-hockey-fan friends... )

Pick one and let me know. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a good action photo of him in which he looks hot as per your request.

Oh, BTW, speaking of icons... presenting a new icon, from [livejournal.com profile] prettygood. That's the delicious Mike Shara in the background, behind Randy Harrison; he's currently appearing at the Shaw Festival in Shaw's You Never Can Tell as Valentine. Yummy.

(I can't quite make it out, but that "Rage" storyboard that Justin is looking at might very well be one of the ones I own... I'll have to dig out the episode and see if there's a closeup.)

(Edit to add: a comic strip for my American geek friends. Oh, what the heck, you'll all probably enjoy it...)

Oops.

lance_sibley: (Bleed Blue And White)
I meant to be in bed 45 minutes ago (SHOCK!), but got distracted (MORE SHOCK!)...

Most things didn't work out today quite the way I planned. I woke up around 1:30, meaning that I missed the first few hours of Bad Wolf One, the one-day Doctor Who con organized by DWIN. I got there around 3 anyway, and am glad I did as I made a contact which might be useful in the next few months.

One of the panels was on marketing Doctor Who in Canada, and the presenter said something that prompted me to go and talk to him following the panel as I thought we might be able to help each other out.

First of all, I should point out that for some reason, Doctor Who fandom seems to attract a lot of gay men and men who give off signals that confuse gaydar. (Well, Scott says the two guys we were cruising were both straight, anyway...)

I started by saying, "I have a proposition for you." His response: "Business or personal?" (See what I mean?) Me: "Well, I'm the Chair of next year's Gaylaxicon..." Him: "Ah, so it's business and personal."

I also spoke with Scott there, and we've got tentative plans to get together Tuesday night either before or after his class. Hopefully these plans will work better than the plans to see Serenity, which never came to fruition (and as a result I never saw it, though it's still playing in a couple of second-run theatres in town).

I was supposed to be getting a ride to [livejournal.com profile] chanilye's party tonight, but through miscommunication I wasn't home from BW1 in time to get picked up. The person who was going to give me a ride was willing to come back into town to get me, but by this point it was about 7:30 and I hadn't eaten yet, so I told her not to worry about it. It was funny as she kept apologizing for not waiting for me, and I kept apologizing because I'd forgotten to tell her that today was also BW1 and I would be out for most of the afternoon. (I hope it was a good party, [livejournal.com profile] chanilye! Next time I'll do better.)

[livejournal.com profile] h8torun, I found a bunch of Darcy Tucker photos and will try to crop and resize them to 100x100 tomorrow, and will post them for you to choose from. It's just that if I start doing it now, I'll be up until 4 and I have a 1 PM meeting tomorrow out by the airport.

Speaking of icons, I found a couple of nice ones that I lifted for myself from a Toronto Maple Leafs fansite. I think LJ's servers are still a bit wonky though, as it took me several tries to upload them. I kept getting other people's icons when I refreshed my "Manage Userpics" page...
lance_sibley: (drag queen)
I think I found out what the problem was... they spell it "B-Girlz". ;) Their website is here.

Anyway, how's this:

lance_sibley: (fabulous)
... but I had a distinct lack of certain types for when I need to convey certain messages. :P

First, a selection of "Drama Queen" icons:

[livejournal.com profile] crystal_diva, let me know which one you're taking so that I can use one of the others. It would be embarrassing if we showed up in the same post wearing the same icons, don'tcha know. ;)

And I figured I needed a "Fantastic" icon (I can't use the "fucking hot" one for everything :) ):

For those musical moments:

I'm not sure which of those two I prefer.

And for those moments when I just feel like being utterly crazy:

Oh, and for Boston Legal fans... check this out. Be sure to sign in as Denny Crane and read the contents of the various folders.

Edited to add: I forgot, [livejournal.com profile] crystal_diva tagged me with this meme:

1) Bold what is true about you.
2) Italicize what you wish was true about you.
3) Add one true thing about you to the end of the list.
4) Tag five LJ friends.

Cut for length )

I hereby tag: [livejournal.com profile] blentron, [livejournal.com profile] chanilye, [livejournal.com profile] icedrake, [livejournal.com profile] sandwichboy and [livejournal.com profile] vanessalp.

Another GIP...

This time, some Captain Jack... )

And I needed a Steven Culp icon... )

I think that's enough for one night. :)

Thank you!

[livejournal.com profile] hi_co - thank you for your generous gift of more space for icons! Now I just need to create some more.

Here's what I've got so far... )

This is fun. Maybe too much fun.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] evenstar_estel:

And I uploaded a bunch of other icons as well, including the PSB ones I created a few months ago and some that I got from [livejournal.com profile] queerasfolkfans - now I just need to go back and see who created them so that I can credit it properly.
