Now what?

I finished watching season one of "Lost" this evening. Now what do I do? (Okay, I've only watched some of the special features on the last disc, so I could watch the rest of those to tide me over. I'm finding myself liking Damon Lindelof, one of the co-creators. He's got that geek vibe that I relate to. I was surprised at how young he is, and I'm also surprised to see on IMDb just how little he'd actually done before "Lost.")

As it happened, I finished the last episode just after tonight's episode started on ABC, so I watched that too. Though it spoiled me for the beginning of season two, which I won't be able to see until the DVDs come out. :( I wouldn't be able to watch any more until then anyway, because bowling starts again next Wednesday night.

Mike's supposed to be coming over tomorrow, so I spent the evening (while watching the DVDs) wrapping everything that wasn't wrapped yet. I hate wrapping gifts. There's a reason I never took up origami as a hobby.

Got a cold call this afternoon from another headhunter for yet another contract with the Ministry of Community and Social Services. I told him I'd already been submitted there recently, but he thinks it was a different position based on the beginning and end dates of the contract. Plus, the other position was a P/A, and this is an S/A. He said that from the resume I have posted on Workopolis, I sounded perfect. Problem is, it's only a three-month contract. I'd much rather find something full-time (and take evening classes).

And now a meme, gakked from [livejournal.com profile] redeem147:

Tell me of a fandom you know I know of and I'll tell you:

  1. The first character I first fell in love with:

  2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:

  3. The character everyone else loves that I don't:

  4. The character I love that everyone else hates:

  5. The character I used to love but don't any longer:

  6. The character I would shag anytime:

  7. The character I'd want to be like:

  8. The character I'd slap:

  9. A pairing that I love:

  10. A pairing that I despise:

After I finished Season One (which was just a few days ago, as a matter of fact), I downloaded torrents of the Season Two episodes - so I'm all caught up now. :)

... and while I'm here, do that meme for Lost!

1. Has to be Jack. Seeing him take charge right off the bat put him in my good books. And it doesn't hurt that he's cute (makes me wish I'd watched more "Party Of Five" :) ).

2. Sayid. It's sad to say that I expected him to be set up as a bad guy, but he's a lot more complex than I expected.

3. I'm not sure who's loved and who isn't beyond the obviously sympathetic characters, so I'm guessing - and I'll say Sun. I found her constant kowtowing to her husband (despite her hidden depths) to be annoying. (And yes, I know it's a cultural thing.)

4. Again, I'm not sure - but I'll hazard a guess that Sawyer isn't particularly well-liked. :) I suspect that IRL, I wouldn't like him either, but I like the character in that he provides some depth to the character interactions. And I think that deep down, he's not a bad guy - he just doesn't know any better than to act the way he does, thanks to his own experiences.

5. Locke. He dropped the ball when it came to the boar-hunting, got obsessed with the bunker and let Boone get himself killed.

6. Boone. Yowza! :) (Apparently Ian Somerhalder has modelled for Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabanna, Gucci, Versace and Guess, and was the "face" of Guess for two fall seasons. I have to go through my back issues of The Advocate to look for ads now. *grin*)

7. Jack. I admire his take-charge attitude and his willingness to admit that he doesn't have all the answers.

8. Shannon. In a second. From the moment we first saw her, I knew I disliked her. She's shallow and manipulative.

9. Charlie/Claire. I think they're adorable together (and I always liked Dominic Monaghan anyway ;) ).

10. Sayid/Shannon. I don't know what he sees in her.

Interesting. Online, from what I've seen, Jack is almost universally disliked, and Sawyer is adored.

I'm always baffled as to why that is. After I had watched the first few episodes I mentioned how annoying I found Jack to be, and a friend of mine remarked that "All of the characters get on my nerves. The only character who I have consistently liked is Sawyer."

Even in the Second Season when Sawyer grows more tolerable as a character, I can't bring myself to like him.

I know he has his issues, but that whole "I need everyone to hate me because I hate myself" thing gets very old fast.

That's certainly part of it. I just want to smack him.

As for Jack, well, he's been written as the hero. Would you find anyone else as annoying if they had taken charge instead?

Probably not. ;P

I just hated how, even in the first episode, he was running around like he was f-ing Superman. And he's very good at jumping to conclusions (but then again, that seems to be something of a common theme on Lost).

Really? That strikes me as somewhat bizarre. Jack is obviously supposed to be the "hero," so I don't know why he'd be disliked.

With Sawyer, I guess there are a lot of people who see him as a lovable rogue? I just don't get it, I guess. I was rooting for Sayid during the torture scene. ;)

Sayid's my guy. I don't like Sawyer, and Jack is bleh.

But saying I don't like Sawyer can pretty much get me lynched by my friends.

Funny... that's the exact reason I disliked him from the start.

I found her constant kowtowing to her husband (despite her hidden depths) to be annoying.
I was expecting her to kill him...

Shannon. In a second. From the moment we first saw her, I knew I disliked her. She's shallow and manipulative.
She kind of got better with time, I think. I still wouldn't call myself a fan, by any means... but...

... and I'm going to stop commenting on this now before I accidentally spoil you for the Second Season.

Well, I wasn't expecting it, but I wouldn't have been surprised either.

Sawyer is really annoying with his oh-poor-me/I-have-to-make-everyone-dislike-me-because-I've-had-a-hard-life thing. When I meet people like this in real life, I'm tempted to tell them to grow the heck up and learn to be a human being, except I usually decide it's not worth the effort.

Yikes. I have to confess, I probably haven't seen all the episodes despite having all seven seasons on DVD and watching it whenever it's on Space (as in, right now :) ).

1. Probably Xander, because he's such a goof. :)

2. Anya. She started getting on my nerves, but I got to appreciate her.

3. Tara. I don't dislike Tara, I just never loved her. She's just sort of there, most of the time.

4. Urm... I'm not sure who everyone else hates, besides Dawn, and I don't love Dawn (though again, I don't hate her). Probably Principal Snyder, but that could just be because I admire Armin Shimerman as an actor.

5. Drusilla, I suppose. She started out interesting, but I lost interest as time went on.

6. I can't decide between Oz and Andrew.

7. Spike, believe it or not. Sometimes I just want to say 'to hell with what people think'.

8. Faith.

9. Jonathan/Andrew. *grin*

10. Spike/Drusilla.

Obviously Tara isn't your time. Many non-gay viewers find her watchable, though. :)

Re 7/8/20, I would slap Buffy in the later seasons, for the whole Spike thing, and the pairing I would despise would be Buffy/Spike.

This is going to be tough. I've seen each episode exactly once (and heard a couple twice, as my back is to the TV when I'm at the computer). But I'll give it a shot...

1. Mal. Who couldn't love that rogue? :)

2. Book. I'm not a big fan of priests and the like, but I found him to have interesting depths. (And I haven't seen the movie yet. ;) )

3. Jayne. As I mentioned with regard to Tara in my Buffy answers, I don't dislike him, but I don't love him. Were I on Serenity, I'd likely end up having a few fistfights with him.

4. Interesting question. Is anyone really hated? I have to go with a guest character, I suppose: Atherton Wing. He reminded me of Inigo Montoya. (Though maybe that was just because of the swordfighting.)

5. Inara. I thought the premise of a Companion was fascinating, but I felt that she could have been used much better by the writers. (That being said, I suppose that if the show hadn't been cancelled, she might have been.)

6. Simon. (What can I say, I like the cuties. *grin*)

7. Mal. I love the idea of being a rogue, but I'm too uptight to let go and do it.

8. Zoe. I'm not sure why, but she got on my nerves. Probably because I sensed that she really wanted to be with Mal.

9. Were there any pairings on the show besides Zoe and Wash? (I'm not counting Simon and River, because I'm assuming that "pairing" refers to romantic pairings.) I guess one could count Mal/Saffron, in which case they would be my favourite.

10. If Mal/Saffron counts for #9, then Zoe/Wash is my answer here.

I think the "Pairings" questions allow non-canonical answers - since we are all slashers here [grin].

True. :) Though as I said, I don't consider myself a Browncoat, and I don't tend to spend much time reading fanfic. Very little, in fact.

Three month contract is a good beginning... gets you some recent work experience, which is important, and hey, if something else comes along, you can always break the contract, or it's a short enough time period, they might even wait for you!

Okay, let's do Voyager, since that's what you are watching.

And Dana's right -- a three month contract (a) is better than nothing, (b) gets current work on the resume and (c) could lead to bigger and better things...

Here's hoping!

Thanks!

Okay, here are my Voyager answers:

1. Tom Paris. For some reason, unlike Sawyer on "Lost," I immediately saw him as redeemable.

2. Seven. When I first saw her, I dismissed her as another bimbo in a catsuit. But Jeri Ryan can act (I think it was "Infinite Regress," the episode in which Seven is taken over by multiple personalities, that changed my mind).

3. Chakotay. I found him dull and pointless.

4. Neelix. Yes, he can be annoying - but I've always liked Ethan Phillips as an actor, and his presence on Voyager made a lot of sense for me.

5. B'Elanna. She had so much potential, and ended up as a caricature.

6. Would it be creepy if I said Icheb? ;)

7. Tuvok. But then again, I've always wished I could be more Vulcan. ;)

8. Again, B'Elanna. Especially in "Lineage."

9. Assuming I can use the non-romantic meaning of the word "pairing," Kes and the Doctor. I felt that they worked very well together.

10. Chakotay/Seven. It just made no sense and came out of nowhere.

Why wait for the dvds? Use iTunes, and you can catch up on all the episodes of the season.

I'd much rather watch the episodes on my 26 inch TV than a 15 inch monitor, though. ;) Not to mention, I like the behind-the-scenes stuff that comes with the DVDs.

Besides, I have so much stuff that I haven't watched yet that by the time I get around to watching it all, the DVDs will be out anyway.
