Yeah, this is going to be long... deal. :P

I still have that low-level cold bug that I've had since Monday, following Klaatu*Kon. I'm feeling extremely dry. Or maybe that's just the five pints of beer I had last night and the equivalent of two more I had tonight making me feel dehydrated... nah. ;)

Some of you may be aware that a young acquaintance of mine was causing me a great deal of worry because his parents had thrown him out of the house (apparently Mormons have a problem with homosexuality - go figure) and I hadn't heard from him in a few weeks, and didn't know where he was. Thursday night, I spent about two hours on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] cuteteenboy and we decided that we would both call his parents on Friday, him as a friend and me identifying myself as his supervisor on the Toronto Trek committee (which isn't untrue, as he is slated to run the Yu-Gi-Oh tournament, which comes under my and [livejournal.com profile] ozreison's area of responsibility as Co-Heads of Programming). I was going to explain to them that I was concerned because I hadn't heard from him in a few weeks and didn't even know if he was alive or dead, in the hopes of possibly putting the fear of God into them.

Well, [livejournal.com profile] cuteteenboy woke up before I did and called, and it turned out that he had gone back home after a few weeks on various people's couches and asked to be allowed back home, and they had relented. Phew!

So [livejournal.com profile] cuteteenboy and I arranged to meet downtown, as he wanted to go shopping in Chinatown and Kensington Market and wanted company. He also arranged for this friend to meet up with us later.

I got downtown at 2 or thereabouts, dropped off a book of Greek mythological people and place names for Michael W. (he is so not naming his dog "Shatner"), and then we walked over to Chinatown. While wandering around he saw a T-shirt for $5 that had "Sugar Bear" on it (for my non-North American friends, he's the mascot for Post's Sugar Crisp cereal) and he had to have it. So we went into the store, and while he was paying for it (well, actually I was loaning him the money temporarily because the store didn't have Interac) the clerk, a middle-aged Chinese man, looked at me and said, "I'm going to be getting similar shirts in next week that say 'Sugar Daddy'."

*facepalm*

It reminded me of the scene from last season's QAF in which Michael and Justin go into a Chinese shop to buy some herbs for Brian to ease his chemotherapy symptoms, and in a subtitled scene, the elderly Chinese couple muse as to which of Michael and Justin is the bottom...

We then went up to Kensington Market. I don't believe I'd ever been there in my life, so I wasn't even sure how to get there - I only had a vague idea. But we found it, and then spent the next two or three hours wandering up and down the same two blocks. During that time, my right shoe split open. Lovely. Especially when it was raining on-and-off all day, and I'd forgotten my umbrella at home. (I checked the weather forecast for the temperature, but completely failed to note the prediction for rain.)

Following that, we met up with our other friend in a mall back in Chinatown (which, incidentally, has a store in it that sells nothing but anime). The first thing I did was to hug him; the second thing I did was to slap him and say, "If you ever disappear like that again and don't tell anyone where you are, I'm going to kill you." He was apologetic for causing me to worry - he'd forgotten that he never called me back after that message he left me a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad he's okay, though he was acting extremely goofy the whole time we were together. Even [livejournal.com profile] cuteteenboy, who has known him for years, was concerned but figured that he was probably putting on an act for us.

Friday night saw me at the Enterprise finale party that [livejournal.com profile] rosemary_ca organized. It was neat to meet people from different message boards; of course, I already knew the Toronto Trek people, but I met some TrekBBS people (for the record, Disco Bones is hot! ;) ) and a TrekUnited message board member, as well as someone who found us via a reference to the party that was posted on Startrek.com.

As for the episodes... "Terra Prime" was good, though I either missed the revelation of who TP's spy on Enterprise was, or they never revealed the name. (Edited to add: oops. I remember now. He was some nobody engineer we'd never heard of before. What's up with that?) I liked how Hoshi, when left in command, was on the verge of giving the order to fire when Archer called in. Linda Park and Harry Groener played the scene well. I also found it amusing that between this ep and "Observer Effect", Mayweather had more lines than the rest of the series put together. Overall, it was a fairly satisfying conclusion to the previous week's episode - the scene between Trip and T'Pol, discussing baby Elizabeth, was touching. Connor Trinneer is just amazing.

As for "These Are The Voyages..." - it could have been a lot worse. That's not to say it was good - far from it. I fail to see how the incidents leading to the signing of the UFP charter had any bearing on Riker deciding to tell Picard about the phased cloak - they could have used any one of a number of situations where failure to follow an order turned out to be the right thing to do.

I didn't like the way the scenes were ordered, either. It bothered me that Riker replayed a scene with Trip after Trip's death - which in itself was handled cavalierly. A most beloved character dies heroically, and Archer and T'Pol are chatting like it never happened? Not to mention, the Rigellians got onto Enterprise far too easily, and Trip was acting out of character in his attempt to lure the Rigellians to their deaths. It struck me as lacking motivation for the character, and manipulation of the audience's emotions for no good reason on the parts of B&B.

There was one amusing moment, I'll grant - when Riker, as Chef, talking to Reed, says, "Are you in love with him?" and suddenly he's talking to Hoshi instead. For a split second, I thought they were outing Reed... heck, the rumours about Reed being gay have been going around since S1.

I'll have to go back and rewatch my tape, though, and decide more thoroughly on how to judge these episodes. I think I was a little distracted by the novelty of watching the episodes in a bar.

I came back home after the Enterprise party and called [livejournal.com profile] cuteteenboy after he was finished at work, as he'd requested. He felt the need to go out and get drunk, so I headed back downtown to Pegasus, where we had a couple of pitchers and bitched about Enterprise (which he'd been able to watch), yakked about our lost-and-found friend, and he expressed his belief that I'm deliberately sabotaging myself in trying to find a relationship. Okay, I wasn't dressed all that nicely for being in a bar on Church Street - I'd thrown a denim shirt on over the T-shirt I'd been wearing earlier that day (a tie-dye T-shirt that says, "All we are saying/Is give geeks a chance"), but warmth was foremost on my mind last night, not fashion.

After the bar closed, we went to Golden Griddle and had breakfast. I ended up getting back home around 5:30 this morning.

Tonight, I had my bowling banquet. I got there around 6:30 (dinner was scheduled to start at 7) and was promptly told by Troy, "It's nice to see you out of the sweats occasionally." (I was wearing a casual-but-dressy blue shirt with black pants and a black jacket.) Okay, maybe I am usually a slob... I just said, "Yeah, I clean up nicely sometimes." (I'd even shaved today. ;) ) Peeter said something similar - "My God, you're not wearing a wrinkled T-shirt." *rolleyes*

Three of my four teammates were there, but one of them (the one who was sitting next to me) left immediately after dinner without saying anything. Weird. The guy on my other side, whom I didn't know as he bowls in the Sunday session, was chatting to me, and kept telling me that I should join the Sunday session. I thought this was a little odd... until he asked me if I was single, and told me, "I don't mean this as a pickup line, but you have beautiful eyes." WTF? Okay, whatever... I excused myself to go to the bar and get another beer, then went over to the other side of the room to hang out with people I actually like (i.e. Troy and his teammates). Besides, this guy's teammates were freaking me out a little too - one of them, who had no discernible teeth that I could see, kept telling me to smile. I used the excuse that I'd had a bit of a roller-coaster week, and he left me alone after that. (Not quite a lie - after all, my friend who had gone missing had put me through a bit of worry.)

So while I was on the other side of the room, watching people dance, I came to the realization that the DJ plays the same songs every year. Maybe even in the same order. This came to me while watching a group of 12 or so line-dancing to a couple of songs I've only ever heard at the bowling league banquet... yeah. Line-dancing. It boggles the mind.

Tonight was the first time since my ex-mother-in-law died that I haven't danced to Abba's "Dancing Queen", which was her favourite song, in her honour - [livejournal.com profile] cuteteenboy wore me out yesterday, and my hips and legs were still sore. Mind you, I had fun watching people dance, too - one young man in particular was really good, and his partner has no sense of rhythm whatsoever. Makes me wonder if they're out of synch elsewhere too. ;) (Okay, I don't really wonder that. But I do find the one who can dance to be incredibly cute. Yes, I'm a slut-wannabe.)

After a while, a few of my friends were making their goodbyes - and Troy practically ordered me to call him occasionally to go out barhopping with him and his teammates, whom he hangs out with year-round - and since there weren't too many people left whom I know, I finished my beer and came home. There was a message from [livejournal.com profile] cuteteenboy on my machine asking me to call him, so I was all set to go back out (without changing first, so as to prove to him that I'm not always a slob ;) ), but when I called it turned out he'd already gone to bed. So I just changed into my sweatpants (okay, maybe I am a slob after all ;) ) and sat down at the computer to catch up.

One thought that occurred to me while drinking my fourth beer of the night - it's strange how one can feel so incredibly lonely in a room full of people one knows. Or maybe that's just me.

For some bizarre reason, I've had Jethro Tull's "Rainbow Blues" going through my head all week.

for the record, Disco Bones is hot! ;)

Hey, was he the young, dark-haired fellow towards the end of the table (not the TUer opposite you)? He was sitting besides a gal with curly medium brown hair, right? I kept meaning to work my way down that end of the table but they arrived rather close to the time that "Terra Prime" was starting.

Anyway, if Disco Bones is that young man, he completely agreed with me that "These Are The Voyages ..." should be decanonized. LOL

Well, if he plays on your team, go for it. He's too young for me if he plays on mine. Hmmm, maybe he has an older brother. ;-)

Yes, that was him - I have no idea whose team he plays for, I just think he's hot. ;)

Somebody on the BBS suggested (rightly) that TP should be considered the finale, and that TATV should just be considered a coda to the finale.

TATV should not be considered anything. It should be burried and forgotten, and hopefully no future generation will stumble upon it. *shudders*

Buried? How about burned? That would probably be safer.

I really hate seeing "Terra Prime" abbreviated as TP... to me, that acronym has unfortunate connotations. ;)

(Even if it did have that flaw that the villain was Ensign Nobody. I think they should have brought back one of the recurring lower decks characters from S1, like Novakovich or Rostov. Especially Rostov. I mean, just look at this (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/hh/0929556/JosephWill.jpg) and tell me you wouldn't have liked to have seen him again. ;) )
