I heard a few hours ago that Patrick McGoohan had passed away at the age of 80. The Prisoner is one of those shows I've always wanted to see, but have never had the opportunity - I've never heard of it being aired on TV (I'm sure it has been, I've just never heard about it), and the DVD set is awfully expensive. I wonder how he felt about the upcoming remake of the show.

And just now, I got the news that Ricardo Montalban has passed away at 88. (I had no idea he was that old... I figured he was around 75. He looked damned good for a man in his mid 40s during "Space Seed", not to mention being in his early 60s at the time of "Wrath Of Khan".) He was someone I'd always wanted to meet, not only because of his larger-than-life portrayal of Khan, but because I grew up watching "Fantasy Island". Alas, his failing health over the past few years meant that he wasn't accepting invitations to conventions (though I only ever heard of him being at one or two, anyway).

I always found it amusing that in one review of TWOK, the critic wrote that Montalban was "hilariously miscast as Khan". Guess that critic never watched TOS...

Rest in peace, gentlemen.

I've seen The Prisoner, thanks to a roommate who was heavy into classic Sci Fi. It's got some interesting episodes, but the ending is so weird. Seriously 1960's acid-trip weird, and doesn't resolve a damn thing. I'm really looking forward to the new version, if only for Ian McKellen.

Montalban seemed like a real, old-school gentleman. I would have liked to meet him myself. And that critic's an idiot. Montalban is Khan.

RIP to them both!

I've never seen Patrick McGoohan's work, though his face is familiar so I think I might have seen some of it in my early childhood.

As for Mr. Montalban, to me he'll always be Khan. But Mr. Roarke comes in a close second.

We've got the dvd set because tom is a total The Prisoner nut. He's got the theme music on his computer. his mp3. And on cd's in the car.
If you want to see a couple of episodes I'm sure we can lend you the dvds.

Indeed, we've lost some iconic actors.

I was also surprised to learn that Montalban was 88. He always looked much younger.

CityTV showed The Prisoner late-night on Friday's a decade back. The Mark Daley intros for it were hilarious.

Gee, we're only in January and it's been a heck of a year already since last July. That's gonna be a helluva depressing closing ceremonies when we see all these folks.
