My original plan for today was to stay home and do some laundry, clean my bathroom and kitchen, and do something about the disgusting state of my dining room. Instead, I went up to Yorkdale and got my hair cut.

I know they're not great pictures, but they're the best I could do given that I had to take my laptop into the kitchen to get enough light. Not to mention that it's the first time I've used the webcam, and I didn't take the time to play with the settings.

And yes, [livejournal.com profile] angrykat, I know you hate it. :P

While I was waiting for my appointment, I browsed in HMV, and discovered that not only are Heroes S2, Desperate Housewives S4 and Boston Legal S4 out on DVD, so are Tiny Toon Adventures S1 and volume 1 of The Hilarious House Of Frightenstein. I was good, though, and didn't buy them.

And speaking of TV-related stuff, Desperate Housewives' season premiere is tonight at 9. Gale Harold joins the cast. This ought to be interesting...

Nice! The short hair really suits you, especially with that color. [profile] angrykat doesn't know what she(?)'s talking about. :D

Thanks! I just have to remember to find time to shave more often when it's this blond - it looks kind of weird otherwise, with a week's growth of dark brown beard. (Fortunately my facial hair doesn't grow all that quickly.)

And [livejournal.com profile] angrykat (yes, "she" is the appropriate pronoun) is the only person I know who will come right up to me and say, "I hate it!" She does it even when it's not freshly cut. She's entitled to her opinion, even though she's the only one I know of who thinks that way. (Everyone else may just be too polite to say it. ;) )

Me? Too polite? I think not. :D

And I kinda like the contrast between your hair and facial hair. Of course, that's probably just because
1) The picture may make your hair look darker than it is.
2) I have a real thing for beards/goatees.

I think it does; imagine Billy Idol circa 1986 (http://www.memorabilia4u.com/data/items/1bb3357b8eab999c2d72f7d513aa8ee0-orig.jpg), and that's probably closer to the real colour. ;) Well, maybe a little darker.

2) I have a real thing for beards/goatees.

I see! Well, I don't think I have any pictures from when I had a goatee, but here are a couple of pictures from about six or seven years ago for you:

1. Oh, wow. Yeah, that probably does look a bit odd.

2. Nice pics!

It'll fade after a few shampoos. :)

And thanks! That's [livejournal.com profile] jaideran_frost in the first one with me, and Andy Hallett (who played Lorne on Angel) in the second.

Thanks!

Some day, when I get tired of being blond, I'll go back to the dark hair and maybe - MAYBE - grow the beard back. (It was a pain to maintain, though.)

Mind you, by the time that happens, it'll probably come in silver. I already have a fair bit of silver coming in, both on my face and up top. I know the Advocate said that silver is sexy, but I'm not exactly Anderson Cooper or George Clooney...

I like the blond. It's a bit short for my taste, but the nice thing about hair is that it grows.

Thanks! And yes, I thought about leaving it a bit longer (Ken Smookler commented at Worldcon that he thought I looked better with longer hair), but it drives me crazy when it gets all curly in the humidity. Since I only get around to getting it cut every four months or so, it'll grow out during the winter, which will be okay.

Frightenstein?

as in Billy Van and Vincent Price?

That's the one!

When I was unemployed a couple of years ago and staying up all night/sleeping all morning, I discovered that Space was airing it at 6 every morning, so I would watch a bit before going to bed.

I grew up watching that.

Is it on DVD now?

Many of us up here grew up with it, too - it was filmed in Hamilton, which is about 45 minutes west of here.

And yes, at least volume 1 is out. I don't know how many they're planning to release - I don't recall how many episodes were in the first volume.

right, but it was done at CHCH, not many people in the United States have any clue who Billy Van is. Where can one procure this? Should I be able to get it when I come to Toronto in November?

That's right. Apparently he filmed all of the openings and closings at the same time, at his home in England.

He also has some scene links in the middle. I'd always assumed he filmed it elsewhere (since he's on a different set from everyone else) but in an interview here one of the crew claims they had Price to Hamilton for three days or so to shoot all the footage, and that everyone adored him.

They actually filmed all the scenes grouped by character, as Billy Van's makeup for each was so elaborate.

Huh - guess the bit that I read was wrong, then. I can't remember where I saw that. And checking IMDb, I now see that he wasn't even British - he was American. (I guess it was his line delivery that always made me think he had an accent. He was born in St. Louis.)

I can see that. Having worn greasepaint-type makeup once (which was probably what they used for the green), I know it's hell to take off. And the Bwanna Clyde Batty makeup job looked like it had several appliances involved.

yes, but he was still technically a part of the show. I know he basically recorded his bits over the course of a couple days.

I was trying to verify that this was the show I grew up watching and would love to have on DVD and wanted to know where I can pick it up, if at all when I get to Toronto in November or Vancouver in December.

I saw it in the HMV store at Yorkdale Mall. Since HMV has stores everywhere, you should be able to get it at pretty much any location.

You'll be downtown for the most part, I assume, so you'll want to try the HMV in the Eaton Centre. (Or, I suppose, I could snag a copy for you and you can pay me back when you're here...)
