The Stanley Cup finals: Ottawa Senators vs. Anaheim Mighty Ducks. (Yes, I know they dropped the "Mighty" a few years ago. I don't care - the team was named after the movie, I'm going to keep reminding them of it.)

It's not right to hope for the return of the 1919 influenza epidemic, but surely something can happen to prevent the Cup from being awarded this year...

And if that weren't bad enough, tonight's Boston Legal episode didn't air. CH was showing NCIS instead, and I have no idea what ABC was showing.

They officially dropped the 'Mighty'? So the team is just called the Ducks?

Bwahahahah. XD

I know - I'm not sure if that really improves the name of the team or not. The Penguins kind of have a silly name too, but at least they're named after a creature that lives in icy climes. (I'm not quite sure what to think of the Columbus Blue Jackets - naming a team after an insect?)

I'm not sure what a bluejacket is. Are you sure they're named after insects, and not sailors?

A yellowjacket is an insect, but if you run across a nest of them you sure as hell don't want to step in it.

It turns out that we're both partially right - according to the Wikipedia article on the team, the name was meant as a pun on yellowjacket - their initial logo featured an insect - but actually refers to the uniform of the Union side in the American Civil War.

ABC was running Dancing With the Stars.

Bleh.

Okay, who's the braintrust at ABC who made that decision? Not to mention, they didn't inform the people who maintain the network's website - it still listed BL. Idiots.

Since you're a Leafs fan ( shouldn't it be Leaves?) I can imagine your dislike of the Sens, the same as a Philadelphia I abhor the Rangers and Devils.

But isn't there a sense of national pride for the prosepct of the Cup coming back to Canada?

*spits out coffee* THE FRIGGIn'DUCKS??????!!?? That's who they're playing?

Leave it to the NHL to make sure the one time the Sens make the finals I don't have a chance in hell of watching it on a US station. I refuse to fork out $150 for Center Ice again.

The media are trying to get us all on the Sens bandwagon using that as a motivation, but here's one Leafs fan who is steadfastly refusing. ;)

(And yeah, grammatically it should be "Leaves," but it never has been.)

Not that I care about the show, but Fox shuttled the House season finale to next Tuesday, according to ads. That makes no sense since sweeps (I think) end today. Everyone else has had their finale already...

After what NBC pulled with the Sens/Sabres overtime on Saturday, forget hockey. Most. Unappealing. Finals. Ever.

Argh. I wish that Global and Fox would have at least updated their websites - both listed the House finale, just as CH's and ABC's websites both listed the Boston Legal finale.

Indeed. And today's Globe and Mail was still talking about NBC's decision to switch over to the Preakness. It was compared to that football game from some years back (I think it was an NFL game, but don't quote me) where the network switched over to some mundane show right on the hour despite the game going into overtime.

I noticed the Boston Legal finale had been moved outside sweeps too. That was really head-scratching for me. You'd think Fox and ABC would want their hit shows to be on the air in sweeps...

And I think it was one of the early Super Bowl's where the network (NBC, maybe?) switched to the movie Heidi or somesuch.

Oh come on Lance. Ottawa winning the cup isn't that bad. At least it's coming back to Canada. And even if you hate Anaheim (who doesn't?) keep in mind that it is the team with the most Canadian players (unlike my team with the most Europeans, go Habs. Way to choke again).

Anyway, look at it this way, if the Sens win the cup, it'll only take the Oilers, Canucks and Flames to win it and then it'll be Toronto's turn again. I'm sure by then the whole team will have been replaced at least.

It is if you're a Maple Leafs fan who lives in Ottawa. :p

That's the advantage of being a Habs fan living in Toronto. Never have to worry about it ;)

About which - the Leafs winning the Cup, or the Habs winning the Cup and being run out of town for being a fan? :P

I do apologize for those third period goals by McCabe and Wellwood on April 7, then, but it was either the Leafs or the Habs - and you know where my loyalties are. ;)

*Shrug* hate to say I-told-you-so, but...

Technically I predicted the sabers and ducks for the final, but seeing as someone decided to have all the ottawa and buffalo players swap bodies for this post season, my prediction still holds true. Of course, I'm rooting for the ducks because a) they're not the sens, and b) I picked them to win in the hockey pool for my dad's office. ^_^

I know. WTF was that?

Well, if you're making money off the Ducks, I won't hold it against you. ;) I made some money off the Flames back in '86 when they won the Cup, after all... and everyone thought I was crazy for picking Joel Otto, John Tonelli and Joe Mullen - and they got 50 points between them even though the Flames lost in the finals. Mats Naslund didn't do too badly for me either, with 19 points. ;)
