Harry Neale: "And the Vancouver Canucks can smell the Anaheim Mighty Ducks right now!"

Um, Harry? I'm not sure that's a good thing. You've been a coach... surely you've been in a hockey team's dressing room?

I think I'll be cheering for the Canucks the rest of the way. It's been a process of elimination:

Buffalo and Ottawa are out because all good Leafs fans hate them.
New Jersey is out because they didn't play Brodeur in goal in the final game against the Islanders.
New York and Detroit are out because... well, just because.
Anaheim is out because I refuse to take any team seriously that was named after an Emilio Estevez movie.
San Jose is out because I hate the colour teal.

That just leaves Vancouver.

Honestly, i can't really root for either Canadian team as it looks like neither will be making it to the finals, let alone winning them. Don't get me wrong, it'd be NICE if Vancouver won, but the way the struggled with Dallas, I just don't see it happening. My money is on Anaheim, and stupid names aside, it's rather hard for me to not like them as a team. They really grew on me the year they were the "Cinderella Team" and showed the big scary Red Wings how to use a broom, and they're just suck an excellent squad. ^_^

Ducks over the Sabres in 6. You heard it here first.

Well, Calgary got knocked out by Detroit in the first round, so you don't have to worry about them.

It wasn't an easy series, that's for sure - but they were up 3-1 before Turco turned his game up a notch.

*shudder*

I was referring to the Sens, who, much as I hate to admit it, are still in the running and still Canadian. But as you stated earlier, we don't root for them. Ever.

...Not that we'd even need to, as they're gonna get fed by the Devils anyway. But hey, at least NOW they can say they beat Gary Roberts.

Yeah, but they do that an awful lot...let teams come back after getting nice cozy leads. Not to mention that while Luongo is on fire lately, their offence is already having some issues, and against the wall that is the Anaheim blue line...yeah, good luck winning games that way.

They clearly have all the parts necessary for a winning team, but unless they take their opponents more seriously, it simply won't happen.

I think I'm obligated to root for the Wings even though I really couldn't care less. :)

It's kind of hard to avoid getting caught up in the festivities sometimes, isn't it? I don't care for basketball, but I'm sure the city will go nuts if the Raptors do well in the playoffs (they won tonight - I'm surprised I didn't hear car horns honking over on Yonge Street, like I would if it had been the Leafs).

Though one of my favourite memories is walking the streets after the Blue Jays won the 1992 World Series, hugging and high-fiving complete strangers. The same thing happened after we won hockey gold in the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Well, I don't like it, but it's the best option left, IMO. Apart from the fact that they beat the Leafs 5-4 in the first game I ever saw live at the Gardens, I don't have anything against them.

And besides, it would be nice to see a team win that's never won before.

I don't know what's funnier: your reasons for hating those teams, or the fact that my reasons and your reasons are almost identical.

As good a reason as any I suppose. I regret to admit that, in as much as I barely follow ice hockey, when I do I follow Detroit. It was my first US city and at that time I was actively trying to experience American culture. Between my first few months in Detroit and my next couple of months in Iowa, I end up following a bit of Wings, a bit of Packers and Lions and a bit of Pistons and Bulls. Baseball... well, I never got in to it much at all.
