What a weekend.
Jul. 9th, 2007 02:27 pmI got home from Polaris about two hours ago... I'm surprised that I'm still vertical, but coffee is a wonderful substance. :)
I didn't see very much of the con because I was in Programming Ops for much of it, but what I did see seemed to be going very well, with the members enjoying themselves thoroughly. I greatly enjoyed working the Constellation Awards. The audience seemed to have a good time, and we only ended about eight minutes late, which snowballed into being 40 minutes late for the TNG panel I'd put myself on with
kradical, but whatchagonnado... the presenters had to be thanked, photographed and gifted (which I probably didn't need to stick around for, admittedly), Ed The Sock's podium had to be transported from one end of the hotel to the other (which I was specifically asked to help with), and I had to change out of the suit I'd worn and back into normal clothes, though people seemed amused to see me in a suit. I was told several times that I "clean up well" - thankfully I'd remembered to shave for the first time in a week - and they were more amused when I described it as my "PC costume". I think the presenters had a good time as well, from what I could see. I think I remember who all the winners were (I know I was surprised a few times, as I wasn't part of the group that counted the ballots), but I'll wait until the official list is posted before I post them in case I misremember.
I did manage to make it to a couple of parties, though, and had some very nice 12-year-old scotch thanks to my friend David.
kradical made an appearance as well, and the folks there enjoyed spending time with him. (I'm not sure where he finds the energy, to be honest... I think I was dragging my butt on the floor by 1 in the morning, and he was still going strong.)
It was also great to see
terri_osborne and
andpuff again.
andpuff was also an Author Guest of Honour, and thanks to her presence at the con we got the Canadian premiere of the series Blood Ties, based on her books... I got to see about 40 minutes of it (dang radio calls), and it looks gooooooood. :)
And lest I forget, it was great to see all of my friends whom I only see once or twice a year. I wish I could have spent more time with each of you, as well as the ones who aren't on LJ, but there's only so much time in the weekend. *sigh*
Oh, and I lost track of how many times I was recognized for my role as "Toronto Trek" in the videos we made, which were aired throughout the weekend on channel 54 (the in-hotel TV channel) as part of Polaris TV.
gurudata said on Sunday that he intends to put the rest of the skits, as well as the blooper reel, up on Youtube. I'll post once they're up so that those of you who haven't seen them can check them out.
So,
twiddler and
yellow_freshia... when's the first Polaris 22 concom meeting? *grin, duck, roll*
