It's Wednesday, and that means...
Nov. 3rd, 2005 12:58 am... a bowling report. :)
But first, I certainly got my exercise this afternoon. I decided to go down to the subway when I was out getting my coffee to buy my monthly transit pass so that I wouldn't be stuck in a line later on in the evening when I was in a hurry. (I probably don't get my money's worth out of it, as I don't use it every day, but I use it often enough to come close, and it's convenient not to have to worry about tokens.) I got to the front of the line and only then noticed the sign that said "Metropass Sold Out." (On the 2nd of the month? WTF?) So I asked the ticket collector if there was somewhere else that he knew of in the neighbourhood where I could buy it, and he said, "Sorry, there are none left." None??? What, did they only print 500 of them this month? Were they held up somewhere on a UPS truck? So I went back upstairs and decided to walk down to Davisville station to see if they had any. It's not that far - only about seven blocks from Eglinton to Davisville, or a little under a kilometre - and it was a nice day, and they actually had the passes there, so that was okay. I'd have been a little ticked off if I'd had to walk down to St. Clair, which is about two kilometres and involves hills.
Anyway, on to bowling... we had a good night tonight as a team, taking three out of four points. I don't recall our exact team scores, but I think we were over 1200 in both of the first two games, and we won the second game by about 160. (Considering that both teams had full complements tonight, and that bowlers are handicapped so that both teams have an equal chance of winning, winning by 160 is pretty damned amazing. That's nearly my average.)
Personally, I had an excellent night: 193, 177 and 181. Mario also had a good night - as I said a few weeks ago, if we could ever both have good nights at the same time, we'd be nearly unbeatable - and
h8torun had two games around the 150 mark, which is excellent for her. We only lost the third game by about 30 pins, and two of the other team's members both had very good games.
The best thing about is that we were bowling against the team that dropped me after last season. Revenge is sweet. :)
Randy had a bit of an accident at the end of the second game - he was sitting on the back of the chair that I was sitting on, with
h8torun and our other teammate, Ralph, nearby, while Mario bowled his tenth frame. Randy had wanted us all to be paying attention, rather than be putting our balls and shoes away and putting our coats on as many people do before the end of the evening. After Mario finished and came back to the scoring table, Randy said something that indicated that he thought we were done for the night. I said, "What do you mean? We still have another game to bowl." He was so surprised by this revelation that he fell over, backwards, off the back of the chair and landed on his backside with his feet in the air between our chairs and the chairs of the team on the set of lanes to our left. Fortunately, only his pride was hurt, but we all thought it was rather amusing in a slapstick kind of way.
I guess you had to be there.
In other news... I just glanced over at the TV, and William Daniels makes for a scary clown. I may have nightmares tonight.
This was all over my friendslist yesterday, but for those of you who didn't hear, Michael Piller passed away yesterday from cancer, at the age of 57. Mr. Piller was Co-executive Producer, and later Executive Producer, of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Executive Producer of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, and Creator and Executive Producer of The Dead Zone. IMO, some of his best work was on TNG, where he wrote the teleplays for both parts of "The Best Of Both Worlds" and "The Enemy" and the story for "Unification"). He will be missed.
I must remember to call the manager at Manulife again tomorrow. I called a couple of days ago and left a message, but she hasn't called me back. I half-expect another brushoff like last time. I had a bit of a depressing exchange with a headhunter yesterday - they were looking for a business analyst, but one who would also put in significant time on the technical side, but after talking to her manager, the headhunter called me back to say that Web-based experience was critical. Sigh.

hoskie. It's not really relevant to this post, but I wanted to break it in.
