I have my life back... for a bit, anyway
Jul. 19th, 2005 03:54 amToronto Trek 19 is over... but if you asked me for any details about what happened, I'd be hopelessly vague. Not because I didn't want to share, but because I don't remember any details... running around for nearly four days non-stop and averaging five hours of sleep per night does that to one.
I do remember some of the highlights, though:
Naturally, there were things that could have gone more smoothly, but overall, I think people had a good time for the most part. There are always things that can be improved - the trick is improving them without letting the things you did well suffer.
Oh, and next year's guest announcements, for those of you who weren't there but might be interested:

Amber Benson...

and Michael Shanks!
The funny thing is, after being named a Junior Co-Chair for TT20, I mentioned to
whitesangria that it would be nice if we could announce some guests at the closing ceremonies this year. I never thought she would pull it off - not because she couldn't, but because she was also running Pre-Registration, and with Katee Sackhoff cancelling a week ago and having to find a last minute replacement, she was kind of busy...
I should be exhausted right now, but for some reason I'm not. That might have something to do with my having gone to bed around 12:30 last night and sleeping until quarter to one this afternoon...
In other news, I have a meeting with the lawyer tomorrow to finally sign the paperwork to transfer the condo to my mother's name. She called me this afternoon, not only to tell me that she had made the appointment, but to ask if I'd decided "how much I'm willing to settle for"... argh.
And in job-hunting news, the headhunter still hasn't received any response from the employer. This is getting ridiculous...
I do remember some of the highlights, though:
- Opening Ceremonies. Though I'm telling you, that song will be bouncing around in my head for the next six months, at least. (Why is it that people come up to me and say, "I didn't know you could sing"? Lots of people can sing - why is it so shocking that I might be one of them? ;) )
- Meeting our Artist Guest, Geoffrey Mandel, when he checked in - after liaising with him for the past several months, it was nice to actually meet. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to see any of his talks.
- At one point, when I was near the Autograph room, a call went over the radio that Rene Auberjonois' and Matthew Waterhouse's lines were both done, and if any members of the committee wanted autographs, it would be a good time. And I had about ten minutes to spare... when I mentioned to Rene that I'd been a fan since "Benson," his response was, "Good Lord." He didn't have any photos for sale, but he was giving people sketches that he was drawing himself. I got a sketch of Odo's bucket.
- Briefly getting to meet Chris and John from "Chris And John's Road Trip," a show on OutTV, a local LGBT-themed digital TV channel. I'm told they came to the Queer Continuum/Gaylaxicon party Saturday evening, but convention business kept me from being able to get to the suite until after they were gone. I'm looking forward to seeing what they put together for their show, though. (
electricland, I'm assuming we'll be getting a copy? I don't have digital cable...)
- Speaking of the QC/Gaylaxicon parties, I didn't get to be there as long as I would have liked (getting called away on convention business does that), but I enjoyed organizing them to the extent that I was able to this year. There were more people helping out, which was nice. Though next year someone else is going to have to take over as I will have a slightly bigger job...
troystar, I'm looking at you guys. ;)
- Meeting our two forensics experts whom I had recruited through an old bridge partner (she's a forensic pathologist) to do panels on CSI. I'm told they had an amazing time and are going to be recruiting their colleagues to come next year. (Again, I didn't get to see their presentations.)
- Being named a co-recipient of the Gillies Award, for the committee member who goes above and beyond in the performance of their duties. I honestly wasn't expecting to win it given the strong field of contenders - and I'm honoured to share it with
dblaser_ca.
- Watching
ozreison jump for joy at Closing Ceremonies when we announced our first two guests for next year.
