Bizarre night tonight at bowling: 187, 192, 115. I'm extremely pleased with those first two games, but I have no idea what happened in the third; whether the oil on the lanes was breaking down by that point and I wasn't making the proper adjustments, or if I was getting tired because of the hectic pace of the first two games, or if I was just sucking (quite possible, since I was getting so many strikes in the first two games - I think I had eight or nine - that I hadn't had many opportunities to practice my spares, so when the strikes dried up, so did my score), or what. I think Brent was pissed off that I still did better than he did overall, though. *grin*

Tonight was also a little bizarre because at least half of the league didn't show up. It's been snowing heavily since before I woke up this morning. According to what I heard on the radio while I was getting ready for work, they were predicting an average of an inch per hour (2.5 cm for my non-North American friends :) ), and I'd say that was pretty accurate. Randy called me around 3 this afternoon to let me know that he, Mario and [livejournal.com profile] h8torun were all going to stay home tonight. I could have sworn he said that Bridgette was also going to skip it, but she showed up tonight. She said, "Did he think I was afraid to drive in this weather? I drive for a living!" (If memory serves, she works for one of the big courier companies.)

Because we were missing three bowlers, and the league rules only allow a team to use a maximum of two dummy scores, we were down over 200 pins per game before we even started. So there was no way we were going to take a single point this evening. Still, it was fun - people were more relaxed than usual, it seemed.

Poor Spencer, though - everyone on his team (and most of their opponents) showed up, so when nearly everyone was finished, they were only just finishing their second game. (No wonder he was drinking. When I said goodnight, I couldn't understand a word he said in response.)

The rest of the day was fairly productive despite the fact that I was working from home. Not because of distractions, but because the connection to my office computer is so freaking slow. I could make a code change, rebuild the project, go make a sandwich, come back and the build still wouldn't have been finished. (Or it's possible that it had finished, and I just hadn't gotten the notification yet.) By the time I'd reloaded the page to test my change, I'd have eaten the sandwich. Grrrr. But I got a new page for the website completed - employers can now store interview questions that are specific to the applicant type (teachers or administrative) and job type (internal, external or both). I didn't have time to get back into the PHP stuff that I was doing last week, though. Apparently there are some low-priority bugs to be dealt with. Maybe I'll log in for a few hours tomorrow and see if I can fix a couple of them, since technically I still owe them an hour or so as I have to leave my apartment by 5:30 to be sure of getting to the bowling alley by 6:30. (Could be worse... when I'm at the office, I have to leave by 4:30 to get there by 6:45.)

I'd like to go out tonight, but... ick. Looking out the window makes me think that's not such a good idea.

Oh, and here's a little tidbit I meant to post earlier this week... overheard on the bus home a couple of nights ago, from the mouth of a teenage girl:

"Don't you think it's superficial that she won't date him, just because he's a dirtbag?"
