So here it is, nearly the end of October and we're coming down to the wire to get Blood Ties renewed.

The American fen have been amazing about contacting Lifetime and telling them how much they love the show -- I can't thank you guys enough, amazing really doesn't do your effort justice. Absolutely, fantastically amazing comes closer. Trust me, they've noticed you!

Now I have a favour to ask of the Canadian fen -- if you guys could drop a quick email to CityTV over the next couple of days (or what the hell, a couple of emails today) and let them know that you enjoy the show and you'd like to see more of it, I'd be really grateful. At the risk of sounding a little too much like Horton Hears a Who -- they need to know you're there on the dust-speck.

The link is here: http://www.citytv.com/toronto/1462_contactus.aspx

Thanks!

Naturally, I sent an email the minute I saw this on Facebook. I need my weekly Kyle Schmid fix. ;)

I finished all the French translations on the website last week, and have been spending the last couple of days changing all of the buttons so that they use the same style. Ooo fun. Weird thing, though - one particular button, no matter what I do, refuses to fire the "clicked" event unless you click it twice. This isn't anything I've done - it's been acting like that for a while. I spent four hours today trying everything I could think of to fix it, but nothing worked. Strange.

I didn't post on the weekend, so here's the executive summary: I had been invited to a party Saturday night but for some reason, I wasn't feeling social - I think I was just still tired from the work week, so I just stayed in. Then our first Polaris 22 concom meeting took place on Sunday. It was nice to see everyone, though admittedly I've continued to socialize with most of the people who were there throughout the summer and fall, so it's not like it's been three months since I saw any of these people. The meeting was preceded by a group breakfast at the Golden Griddle - not brilliant food, but I'll never say "no" to a buffet that has French toast, pancakes and scrambled eggs (even if the latter were clearly scrambled by some kind of machinery and not by hand).

The funny thing about that morning was that I left around 9:30 to meet [livejournal.com profile] whitesangria at 10:15, as she was giving me a ride. I was going to stop in Starbucks to grab a coffee (I hadn't gotten to bed until about 4), but the woman working behind the counter was the second-slowest employee I've ever encountered in a Starbucks (the slowest no longer works there, thank Ghu). Since there were three or four people in line, I didn't bother to stop, and just headed right up to where [livejournal.com profile] whitesangria was picking me up. Now, recently it was said (I think by [livejournal.com profile] kaelsu2?) that I'm seldom seen without a cup of coffee in my hand, so when I got into [livejournal.com profile] whitesangria's car, I said, "Hey, look! No Starbucks cup!" She didn't even look at me, and just said, "You didn't have time, did you?" She knows me too well...

I ended up not going for dinner with people afterwards because [livejournal.com profile] whitesangria immediately offered me a ride home, and I decided to do that instead. Alas, both [livejournal.com profile] ennisdl and I had forgotten that he had boxes for me in his car, so about half an hour after [livejournal.com profile] whitesangria dropped me off, he called and said, "Where are you?" Oops. He ended up coming by and dropping everything off, so now my living room has been taken over by boxes of Programming stuff. It balances the dining room full of boxes of Gaylaxicon t-shirts.

Speaking of Programming, we have our first department meeting this Sunday afternoon. It should be fun - as usual, there's a little turnover in the department, but I know two of our three new people and know that they'll be full of ideas. I'm just wondering who's going to take over Star Trek for [livejournal.com profile] kosst_amojan - with a new Trek movie coming out next year, we're going to need some strong panels. I know a few of the team members are strong in the Star Trek area, but they're already pretty busy with other tracks. I guess we'll just have to see who wants it - I have faith. Faith of the heart, one might say... :P

Finally!

The father of a United States Marine who was killed in Iraq was suing the Westboro Baptist Church (Fred Phelps' outfit, the "church" that pickets the funerals of gay men and soldiers for defending a country that tolerates gay people - you may have heard of his website, www.godhatesfags.com). I read about this a couple of months ago and thought, "Great, another opportunity for Phelps to get publicity. The courts will never rule against him because of the free speech rights enshrined in the Constitution, no matter how deranged he is in using said rights."

Well... the jury awarded the Marine's father 11 million dollars today, after only 24 hours of deliberation! Hopefully this will put that bastard Phelps and his "church" out of business for good - according to the judge, that's more money than they have. *does happy dance*

Here's the news story.

Thanks go out to [livejournal.com profile] neoengel for posting this earlier.
