So I'm thinking...
Sep. 25th, 2007 12:01 am... and that's always dangerous, I know. ;)
Having been inspired by seeing
gurudata's and
kanecool's big-ass TV, and being fed up with the colour being off on my ten-year old 26" Zenith (it's not adjustable - one of the colour guns died, then came back, but the image is still blurry in sections of the screen when there's a lot of red in the picture), I was looking at flat-screen TVs at Bay/Bloor Radio on the weekend.
They have a 37" flatscreen Aquos HDTV, with a two-year warranty, for $999. (I think it's this model.) They're offering (IIRC) a six-month subscription to the digital cable service with a PVR for very little extra (about the same as what I'm currently paying for cable, I think). It would certainly be nice not to have to worry about whether or not I have a tape handy for those nights when I'm not sure I'm going to make it home in time for the shows I want to watch.
I wasn't sure that I would have the room for a wider TV in my entertainment unit, but when I got home I took a look and thought, "What was I worried about?" I have plenty of room, even if my stereo speakers have to go behind the set.
The question is, do I want to bite the bullet, or can I manage with the TV I have for a little longer (since I honestly don't watch that much TV, though I have a ton of DVDs backlogged)? It's really tempting... though I'm not sure how I could get the dang thing home. I'm pretty sure they deliver, though I'm never home by the time they close on weeknights, and they're not open on Sundays, and I'm going to be away for the first two Saturdays in October... but I'm worried about missing out on what seems like a really good deal.
So yeah, as I said above, I have a huge DVD backlog at the moment. On Saturday, I picked up Boston Legal S3, American Dad S2, Family Guy S5, Animaniacs Vol. 3, and - one I COULD NOT RESIST - Benson S1. That makes 13 box sets I've bought in the last three weeks - yikes.
I kind of wanted to watch as much of Heroes S1 as I could before tonight, so that I could be caught up and then tape the season premiere (sorry, Doctor Who was always going to take precedence), but that didn't happen. Sigh. I could still have taped the season premiere, but I wasn't sure that I was going to be home in time for Doctor Who, and the VCR can only tape one show at a time.
And while I'm talking about television, and Doctor Who in particular, that was quite a season finale tonight.
( Cut for spoilers... )
