Water, water, e/v/e/r/y/w/h/e/r/e/ nowhere...

I got home last night from a TT Exec meeting to find a notice that the water in my apartment building was going to be shut off from 9am to 5pm today for repairs. Around 3, the fire alarm went off because the plumbers set the smoke detectors off while welding pipes up on the 15th floor. Now, at 7pm, the water still hasn't been turned on (and actually, just as I typed that, I heard what sounded like water rushing through the pipes... and lo and behold, I went and checked, and yes, the water seems to be turned on now; it's brown, but it's running).

I'm annoyed... I wanted to start on dinner over an hour ago, but I don't have anything in the apartment that I can cook without water being involved. I realized when the water was late coming back on that I should have filled my kitchen and bathroom sinks with water last night before I went to bed. Silly me, I expected when they said the water would be back on by 5, that it would be back on by 5...

I also feel really, really scummy. I suspect I'll be taking a shower at some point this evening.

(Update, 7:10PM... there goes the damned fire alarm again.)

(Update, 7:25PM... back inside. I never noticed before that firemen have their name in fluorescent orange letters on the back of their coats, down at the bottom. The cute young fireman's name is "J. McManaman.")
