Almost time for Toronto Trek...
Jul. 11th, 2005 02:40 amThe past few days have once again been packed with preparations for Toronto Trek. Yesterday, we had the panelist package preparation and pizza party meeting, where we took all of the panelist info sheets, maps of the hotel, welcome letters, etc. and put them into envelopes to be given to panelists when they arrive. I was in a bit of a crotchety mood, because I wanted to get stuff done so that we could relax afterwards, but the folks that were there wanted to have a good time while we were working... we got it done, though we didn't finish up until midnight. There were a few things that we forgot about, but we have three and a half days or so before we all start heading to the hotel. (Last year, we were still putting panelists' badges into their envelopes on the Friday morning... none of that this year!) Anyway, I got home at 1:30, made a couple of phone calls, and went to bed around 2:15.
This morning when the alarm went off at 11, I did my usual "shut-the-alarm-off-and-go-back-to-sleep" thing. Got up at 12, but still managed to make it to the meeting for 1. Actually, I think we got there a bit early (I say "we" because
nexstarman and
indefatigable42 got onto my subway car one stop south of where I embarked. Their presence made the trip to the meeting more enjoyable, at any rate... usually I just sit there, stare into space and drink my coffee.
The meeting was long, but that was partly because it was our second last meeting of the year. Traditionally as part of the kickoff to our meetings, we go around the room and introduce ourselves in case there's someone new in the room, or someone who hasn't been to a lot of meetings. At a late meeting, the Chairs quiz everyone on their knowledge of where things are at the convention, what colour various identifying items are, what time big events take place, etc. During the introductions,
whitesangria got me good...
rockgoddes had earlier introduced herself as one of next year's Chairs, and said something to the effect of "I don't know what kind of chair I am... an armchair, maybe." When it got to me, I introduced myself, added that I was one of next year's Chairs, and said "Think of me as a comfy chair." To which
whitesangria said, "Shouldn't that be the 'easy Chair'?"
And here I thought I was incapable of embarrassment, but apparently I'm still capable of turning a very nice shade of chartreuse... it took several minutes for the meeting to get back on track after that.
There were a lot of other things of a last-minute nature that needed to be brought up at the meeting, which was another reason it ran long. There are always things that can't be done until the week before the convention.
I was feeling too tired and hungry (not having eaten all day) at the end of the meeting to go on the flyer crawl, so I came home and had dinner, and caught up on the 120 or so outstanding emails in my Inbox, as I hadn't turned the computer on last night when I got back home.
Oh, some pictures from this year's Pride parade were posted today at the Gay Geeks Rock Yahoogroup. I'm only in one of them:

That's me on the left in the Starfleet uniform, handing out Gaylaxicon 2006 flyers.
You may all now commence with the mocking.
