It's been several days since I was last online here, so I won't go into tremendous amounts of detail about what's been going on. Suffice to say, Klaatu*Kon was amazing fun. People think that we science fiction fans are geeky - well, music fans can be just as geeky in their own way. And I mean that as a good thing - I'm always happy when I see people pursuing their interests full-out with no sense of shame. (Though even I raised my eyebrows when the final item in the charity auction - a pair of hollowed-out coconut halves, used to make the sound of a horse galloping on a track on their final album - went for $1800.)

[livejournal.com profile] rockgoddes did a fantastic job - everything ran incredibly smoothly. People were waiting for us to open Registration on Friday afternoon, so there was a bit of a rush, but it wasn't a huge crowd, and they seemed pretty good-natured about having had to wait until 1PM. I never had a single problem with the guest I was assigned (Steve Smith, the journalist who started the rumour that Klaatu were the Beatles) - in fact, he seemed almost apologetic when he asked me to bring him some water before the concert Saturday evening.

Overall, I was reminded once again why I love spending time with this group of people - everyone works so hard and with such passion for what they do.

I really shouldn't have been as tired as I was, since I don't feel like I did a whole lot, but my legs were killing me from Saturday morning on. I had a little trouble getting up from the seated position when I went to bed Saturday night (the two Alabama Slammers I had in the bar had nothing to do with it. ;) ). It's probably because I have trouble sitting down when I'm at a con, especially if I'm working - I have this need to be on my feet all the time, even if I have a chair available - I did the same thing at Ad Astra, when I was working at the Gaylaxicon table. Chair right there, but did I use it? Nooooooo...

I got home around 4 yesterday afternoon - I think? My memory is a bit fuzzy - read the three papers that had accumulated, watched Enterprise, Family Guy and American Dad, then caught up on email and read a couple of fora at TrekBBS. I went to bed around 2:45, and woke up this afternoon at 12:45. Futzed around until 5:30 or so, when [livejournal.com profile] twiddler called to let me know that he was on his way to pick me up to go to the TT Exec meeting. (Well, I say "futzed," but I actually read the paper and dealt with all of the emails that came in this morning.)

The meeting was unusually long, but we had a number of items that required a lot of discussion. I think it was fairly productive. It feels to me as though there's a lot of Programming stuff to get done in a fairly short period of time, but I have confidence that we'll get it done. Patti (no LJ name) gave me a list this evening of topic ideas to suggest to the DNA expert from the Centre For Forensic Sciences who is coming to the con to debunk CSI. ;) Oh, and Karl Schroeder has been added to the list of author guests.

Got home around 11:45 (I think?), dealt with email, caught up at the TT message board, and read something like 220 friendslist entries, so now I'm caught up here too. And it's only 5:12 AM - woot! :)

[livejournal.com profile] ozreison tagged me with a movie meme, but I'll have to do it in my next post.

I just got home about 15 minutes ago from seeing Hitchhiker's Guide with Scott. He was a little disappointed in parts of the film, but I thought they did fairly well, all things considered. I kind of wish they hadn't tried to cram parts of all of the books into this film - it didn't make much sense that they would go off to find the Restaurant At The End Of The Universe at the end, when there were elements in the film from later books. I felt that they could conceivably make more than one film out of the material available to them.

Zaphod was appropriately annoying - and I was glad that the second head was discarded as I found the effect unsatisfying. I rather liked Arthur and Trillian - I thought that both actors did a fine job in the roles. I also liked Slartibartfast - Bill Nighy seems to be showing up all over the place these days - and the effects during the tour of the planet factory were very well done. Marvin looked goofy to me in all of the pre-film photos that I saw, but ultimately I thought that Warwick Davis and Alan Rickman did an excellent job with their performances. (The cameo by the Marvin android from the BBC miniseries was a cute touch.) Mos Def wasn't nearly as bad as Ford as I had been expecting - though I do wish that the Vogon poetry scene hadn't been compressed by having Ford, Arthur and the Book have dialogue while the Vogon captain was reciting. Ford's mugging during the recital scene was priceless.

Overall, I had a smile on my face throughout most of the film - no side-splitting laughs, but I was already extremely familiar with the story and so I already knew all of the jokes. I'd give the film 8 out of 10.

This having been the first time I'd seen Scott since October, we hadn't yet exchanged Christmas presents. He gave me a framed photo of myself with Vesta - the photo that he took the night we took her to the vet, as I hadn't previously taken any photos of her. Considering the circumstances, it was a very nice photo.

Ironically, given the film we saw this evening, I'd given him the box set of "The Office" (both seasons plus the Christmas special). I say it's ironic because it starred Martin Freeman, who played Arthur Dent in Hitchhiker's.

Afterwards we went to The Second Cup for a bit, where I had a chai latte. He didn't feel like anything, so we just sat and got caught up. We talked a bit about Doctor Who, a bit about Trek, and a bit about conventions in general - in other words, the same stuff we'd talked about when we went for dinner before the movie. It was nice to see him again.

The only annoying part of the evening was that I forgot to set up the VCR to tape Doctor Who tonight, so I missed "Dalek." Dang.
