I'm surprised Don Cherry's reaction was so mild - I half expected that he would work the word "pansy" into his comments.
Though I suspect that the character of the 11-year-old will be more controversial than the notion of a gay hockey player.
I also wonder whether Mats Sundin is covering for someone or if he really doesn't know of any gay hockey players. After all, there have got to be a couple, just speaking statistically. (Has Sidney Crosby got a girlfriend? ;) ) I guess he's forgetting Mike Danton, though the jury still seems to be out on whether he's actually gay or if he was just abused by his agent.
