Trek casting news.
Trektoday.com and Trekmovie.com are both reporting that Zoe Saldana has been cast as Uhura in the upcoming Star Trek movie. Full story here.
Interesting choice. She does look a bit like a young Nichelle Nichols. I don't know anything about her acting skills, though she's been pretty busy over the last six or seven years. Her IMDb profile includes a couple of episodes of Six Degrees, episodes of Law & Order and L&O: SVU, Drumline, The Terminal (of which there's a clip on the Trekmovie site) and Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl.

Or, who knows - maybe they've already cast him, but they're not announcing who it is until the end of the process to create anticipation. ;) (I don't know if that would even be possible, to be honest, though I guess they could get the actor and his agent to sign a non-disclosure agreement, under pain of losing the part if they break it.)
So, I guess that if anyone knows, it would be you - is there any credence to the Russell Crowe rumour at all?

My best guess is casting will come out very slowly. Spock was July-ish, Chekov was August, Uhura was September...I'm guessing Sulu, Scotty and Bones will finish up the year. Maybe a design of the Enterprise in January. Abrams and Paramount will want to make a splash with the Kirk actor. I'm guessing comic-con next year (July). But the other question then becomes how you keep it secret if filming starts this fall.
God, I sound like such a geek.
