Polaris 22 Guest Announcement!

Sitting on this information was almost as hard as it was keeping Michael Shanks a secret from [livejournal.com profile] ozreison during the leadup to TT20. Oh, who am I kidding? It was harder. :)

Announcing... Zachary Quinto! That's right, Sylar from Heroes and Spock from the new Star Trek movie! (No bonus points for guessing which of those roles actually has me more excited. ;) Though that may be simply because Heroes is still on my "to be watched" pile.)

We're equally pleased that author Tanya Huff will be returning to Polaris 22. Tanya is the author of the Blood books (on which the TV series Blood Ties is based). Her latest novel, The Heart Of Valor, was published in 2007.

And although this announcement isn't 100% official, [livejournal.com profile] whitesangria said it was okay to mention - though it won't be mentioned in TCON News due to its tentative nature: Fiona Patton has tentatively agreed to be an author guest as well (depending on a certain situation which I won't go into here). Fiona is the author of five books, four of which make up the Branion Realm series (The Stone Prince, The Painter Knight, The Granite Shield and The Golden Sword).

That's more like it.

I somehow managed to get to the bowling alley ridiculously early - about 6:20 - despite missing the 4:30 bus. It evidently stood me in good stead, though. Despite a very slow start - 44 through the first four frames and 101 through the first seven - I managed to find the right adjustment and finished the first game with four strikes in the last three frames. The rest of the night went as well, and so I finished with my best series of the year: 186, 176, 187. I managed to get my average back up two pins to 158, though that's still about 8 pins below where I'd like it to be. And my team even won two of the three games, which is something we don't often manage to do. (I didn't check tonight, but a few weeks ago we were fourth overall in the league in total pinfall out of 28 teams, and last overall in points from games won. Weird.)

[livejournal.com profile] h8torun wasn't there tonight, so we had Ralph filling in, and Mario had a bridge game tonight, but he'd left us a set of declared scores. They weren't his best, but at least we didn't have to use any dummy scores. (Since we only won the first two games by a total of 31 pins, that's important.)

Hopefully this is the start of a trend. We won't make the championships at this rate, but if we manage to stay hot, we should do well in the consolation round.
